Missing the rubber eyepiece, the lens image is very crisp, with range markings on the reticle.
The formerly white armored box and tube are repainted a deck gray, with overspray on the paper label,
CAUTION / DO NOT SNAP COUPLING ARM.
As if to emphasize that message, the coil spring is disconnected from its post. Under a spring load,
Crank handle moves thru 90deg in its action. Grip is missing--
[the 3.5"L handle will be shipped dismounted].
The "coupling" refers to the Periscope assembly for the M113A1 APC, likely for the T50(Aust) Turret:
Limited info indicates system development in the '60s, for Tanks and LAV's, found a home in the
M113 APC

and its improved versions.
This one's form is similar to those supplied by the U.S. to the Australian Army.
Serial #8731
