Description
The Maps are Back. Quite a few years ago Ireceived
over a THOUSAND Topographical maps from the Granddaughter of A.T. Hampton. Hampton was employed by the Standard oil company in the 1950's through the seventies. His job, believe it or not was map Dowsing. He was
apparently
very successful as he passed with a fortune in his bank account. This has been verified by several past eBay customers who did a little research on him.
This map IS NOT marked by A.T. Hampton, but it is marked by the
Dept.
of mines. The only date I can see is 1955 topographic Army map service from Kingman and Las Vegas 1955. There is no Laughlin or Primm
Nevada
listed on the map.
This is a huge map
measuring
38 1/2" X 36". It is folded, so it will ship to the winning bidder folded.
Perfect for a Vegas historical society, mining or rock hound group, or even a prospecting / treasure hunting club.
For those of you who don't quite understand what Dowsing is, it is an unusual talent some people claim to have, to find objects, water, missing persons, minerals, and valuables. He looked for oil and gas deposits for the oil company, but marked hundreds of maps for other objects. Some of these symbols I do not understand. Some are basic. AG means silver. AU means gold etc. Sometimes he wrote Coins or nuggets, sometimes gas or oil, sometimes just a circle or a Z mark.
I sold quite a few some years back and held onto what I thought was the best for me. I didn't expect to get laid up. I'm now a classic from the 50's you might say. I have lung issues (COPD) and a bit of a ticker problem, so I stay indoors now.
To be honest, I took one of the maps and a metal detector out to a site near me, but didn't find anything. Maybe just a lack of talent. Some of my maps are marked and some not. I will state if it is. I will never show a photo with markings on it. That just wouldn't be right. If you win, you will be the third set of hands on your map. When I bought them from Julie, they were boxed up in his house. I was the first to look at them after his death. You will be the second. These maps are old. Some may have stains on them, some may have a muck or mold smell. Some may smell like tobacco, but not much. I have had them for over five years and they have been loose in big boxes. Pretty much aired out by now.
Due to the fact that private data on the marked ones is meant for your eyes only, I won't accept returns. I will gladly on unmarked maps.
This one I'm showing because it was once made public information.
Shipping will be free to the lower 48 states only ( calculated it into the starting bid). Sorry, no international bidders please.
Good luck and thanks for looking.
Please be aware that there is a .00 shipping tube with caps, and the .00 shipping cost is included in the price.
Thanks.
