Description

Description
: An early Tin Litho Peanut Butter Pail with Traveling Circus Theme, One-Pound Size, Continental Can Co. for
Toy Land Brand, H.C. Derby Co, New York, NY, c.1930’s.
Cylindrical Pail-form with wire bail handle and correct, original fitted lid with additional graphics and other information.
Body features colorful and attractive Circus Menagerie Images all around including:
Marching Band, Native American & Ballerina on Horses, Clown with Bear, Elephant, Children, Camel, Monkey, etc
.
Note
: This is the scarce H.C. Derby (New York) variant; nearly identical to the E.K Pond (Chicago) version. For some reason, the Toy Land brand was not a success..Derby later marketed Peter Pan. See Internet for further information.
Conditions
: Pail is in Very Good++ to Excellent overall condition with strong color. Pail shows slight wear, scuffs, rubs, soiling, etc., as shown. It has not been cleaned. Typical tarnish noted on the base and interior.
Lid shows expected edge wear consistent with use and handling; otherwise Excellent.. Pail interior is clean.
Lid fits snugly but can be removed by inserting a coin or similar at the three raised areas along the lip (see close-ups).
A clean, very respectable example with bold, vibrant graphics and desirable subject matter
. Guaranteed old and authentic. Displays brilliantly.
I would consider the H.C. Derby, New York “Toy Land” Pail a must-have for the advanced collector.
